Mayu Iwatani will defend her IWGP Women’s Championship for the eight time at the upcoming Historic X-Over II show taking place on November 17th from the EDION Arena Osaka, two years on from the show that saw her lose in the final of inaugural tournament to KAIRI.

Announced officially on Monday 28th October, Mayu will take her on her old foe Momo Watanabe as she looks to continue her gargantuan reign with IWGP Women’s Championship.

As the two most tenured wrestlers on Stardom’s roster, they are extremely familiar with each other, facing each other a total of 11 times in singles competition. Mayu currently has the edge in terms of a head-to-head record, recording 6 wins to Momo’s 4 to go alongside the one time limit draw. Iwatani has also beaten Momo in the last two singles match the pair have had, including in the semi-finals of the IWGP Women’s Championship tournament back in 2022, and more recently in August as a part of this year’s 5Star Grand Prix. It’s this victory that Momo has taken issue with, hypocritically believing Mayu cheated to win after Watanabe was hit with her own baseball bat.

Already announced for November’s Historic X-Over event is Zack Sabre Jr teaming with Maika against the team of Starlight Kid and El Desperado, and the team of Natsupoi and Taichi taking on Clark Connors and Thekla.

A Historic X-Over II press-conference is scheduled for Tuesday 29th October.

The event will air live on NJPW World for subscribers.
